37signals releases Writeboard

Makers of super-cool web applications “37signals”:37s has released “Writeboard”:wb, a free, collaborative writing web application.

Writeboard allows you to create documents online that you can access from anywhere as long as you’ve got an internet connection. It can save multiple versions of your document and even allows you to compare your edits and changes.

Wait! There’s more. You can actually invite other people to edit your document, and Writeboard will track all the different versions and edits that everyone has made. If anyone makes a mistake, just roll back to the last good version and it’s all good again. It’s great for collaborating and revising on documents with colleagues or team members on a project.

Other cool features:

* You can download different versions of a document as a text file at any time.
* Email the document to yourself or your friends.
* Find out which versions have been changed the most by quickly glancing at the size of the dot next to the versions in the sidebar. The bigger the dot, the bigger the changes to the document.
* Leave commments on the document to discuss changes.
* You can even track changes and comments to the document via RSS.
* If you have a “Backpack”:bp account you have direct access to your Writeboards and have them listed in a central location.

My initial thoughts are that Writeboard is a great tool for bloggers to keep track of their blog drafts, especially if you’re like me and take a long time to write your entries. Most blog tools have built in draft functions, but none of them can allow you to track your changes. There are lots of “other uses”:http://www.writeboard.com/examples too.

“Writeboard”:wb is definitely a very handy tool for anyone who is writing, be it alone or with other people. In classic 37signals style, it’s simple yet effective and is a great addition to their suite of online web applications.
